About Colislinn

About Colislinn

This charming country house sleeps 12 and is available to rent all year round.  Situated in 8 acres of its own grounds in the heart of the Scottish Borders, Colislinn is the perfect location for a family or group holiday:  the house is large enough to relax or celebrate with extended family and friends, but also comfortable for just mum, dad and the kids.

It is fitted with all mod cons and is comfortably furnished with original vintage and antique furniture.  We have spent many holidays here with our own children so the house is very child-friendly and there are all manner of indoor and outdoor games available.  Well-behaved pets are most welcome.

You can walk straight out of the door up the hills behind the house and wander for miles in the rolling Borders’ landscape without seeing anyone.  There are lots of places of interest and things to see and do nearby.

Colislinn  This traditional house retains many fine period features including turrets, open log fires and original wooden floors. Rooms are very generously proportioned and from the many large windows guests will enjoy magnificent views. This is a treasured and well-used family home with lots of character – the furniture is mostly vintage and antique. Furnishings are simple, comfortable and informal. Generations of children have enjoyed playing hide and seek in the house and grounds.

 The Grounds

Outside there are lawns, paddocks, woodland and rolling hills beyond.  There is a children’s trampoline and about 100 yards away from the house runs a burn which flows into the Slitrig Water where guests can take a swim in the natural pool. There are many walks around the estate and this is an ideal spot from which to tour the beautiful Border countryside.  There are many places of historical interest such as Hermitage Castle, Mellerstain House and Abbotsford to name but a few.   Activities include golf, horse-riding, cycling, fishing, archery, clay pigeon shooting and hill-walking. Hawick is 2.5 miles away with good shops and pubs, café’s and restaurants.
